The Tigers are bringing a lot of extra luggage to camp this year. The front office cleared out the minor league filing cabinets, purchasing the contracts of 13 prospects to join the Major League roster for Spring Training. It is a heavy injection of young talent, pulling directly from Triple-A Toledo, Double-A Erie, and High-A West Michigan.

Toledo sends the largest contingent of the bunch. The Triple-A club will see left fielder Daniel Guerrero, starting pitcher Joon-ho Lee, center fielder Juan Medina, catcher Nick Cuyler, second baseman Guo-liang Thean, and reliever Edward Pineda packing their bags for big league camp.

Erie kicks in five bodies to the mix. The Double-A squad is sending third baseman Keyon Ferguson, starter Omar Ramirez, right fielder Matt Gray, and relievers Ruben Moreno and Sergio Arellano up the ladder.

High-A West Michigan chips in a pair of arms to round out the transaction wire. Starters Sang-yeon Kim and Jose Gonzalez get the bump to the big league side.

It is standard spring housekeeping, just on a slightly larger scale than your average February roster shuffle. Most of these guys are here to get reps, soak up the big league environment, and provide innings and at-bats while the regulars get their legs under them. A few might stick around longer than the first wave of cuts, but for now, it is just about getting eyes on the next wave of organizational depth. The roster math is always a headache this time of year, but adding 13 arms and position players to the daily grind gives the coaching staff plenty of options to evaluate before the real games start.
